Who can use it?
- Residents outside the EU (including non-EU tax zones like Ceuta, Melilla, and the Canary Islands).
- Exportable goods for personal use or as gifts. Not valid for accommodation, restaurants, leisure, or business purchases.
- Goods must leave the country in their original condition within 3 months of purchase.

Applicable VAT rates:
- 21% (Standard rate): Most products.
- 10% (Reduced rate): Food and optics (prescription glasses and sunglasses).
- 4% (Super-reduced rate): Essential goods, medicines, newspapers, and books.

Instructions for travelers
To comply with Spanish Tax Free regulations, you must prove you reside outside the European Union with your passport or other valid proof of residence at the time of purchase. When leaving the EU, you must carry the unused purchased goods with you, no later than three months after the purchase date.

Some categories of goods are not eligible for a VAT refund (such as accommodation, restaurants, or leisure activities). Before leaving the EU, you may be asked to show the purchased goods at the customs office at the port or airport-so have them ready.

On the day you leave the EU, before your departure, locate the VAT refund validation machine at the port or airport (in Spain, it’s called the "DIVA machine") and scan your refund request code. You may be asked to show the goods at the Customs office to confirm they are unused and in your possession-have them ready to speed up the process.
